Leadership Awards!

Congratulations to our 2018 Foremost Leader, Laurel Smitter of Kent Companies!

Since joining, Laurel has become a driving force within our chapter over the last 3 years.  Her hard work and dedication to our scholarship fundraiser Golf Outing has resulted in our scholarship fund being the highest it’s been in many years and our chapter is currently providing four women with scholarships.

She also organized our successful WIC week luncheons for 2016, 2017, and 2018, which have brought many new members and resulted in significant chapter growth.  Laurel has been on the board of directors since 2016, first serving as a Director then as Secretary (currently).  She has also been active in our state and regional events, including

statewide meetings in 2015 and 2016, North Central Region Forums in 2015 and 2016 and she sang the National Anthem at the 2015 North Central APC.

Her passion for NAWIC is evident in the dedication she shows to every task she takes on, and her positivity is evident at every event.  She is driven by the opportunity that NAWIC gives her to connect with women both in our local community and nationwide.  She likes being part of an organization that can have a larger impact on our communities by working together toward a common goal

Congratulations to our 2018 New Leader, Angela Lemke of Rieth-Riley Construction!

Angela Lemke joined NAWIC last April. She initially joined NAWIC as a way to meet women that worked in the same industry as her.  She was also looking for a way to broaden her horizons and learn more about other industries.  She states “Once I joined, I became aware of the different ways we help our respective communities, and that is what drives me to be involved.”  She is passionate about helping others through our scholarship program, Volunteer Events, Block Kids, CAD competition…etc.

Over her brief tenure, she has participated in multiple monthly meetings, our volunteer event in December, at a Women at Risk International. She volunteered her time to our 2017 annual golf outing and serves as the Chair for our chapters Social Media Committee.

As a recent addition to our board, Angela will offer a beneficially fresh perspective on how we can continue to improve our outreach as a chapter and a region.  Angela is hopeful that as she continues her involvement within our chapter, she will find more ways to grow professionally promote the construction industry and help our community
